HEALTH RESORT PÄRNU - relax and work AKA treatments as a one extra for the meeting
One of the preconditions that facilitated the development of Pärnu into a health resort was the favourable geographic location in the immediate vicinity of the sandy-bottomed seacoast, at the shallow harbour opening to the south.
In 1838, a bath-house, a former old inn at the seaside, started to give warm sea-water baths. That year is considered to mark the birth of Pärnu as a health resort - Pärnu was added to the list of the other Estonian health resorts.
The bath-house was bought 50 years later by the town government; a bathing inspector was hired to direct the development of a treatment and recreation centre. Following that, a network of lanes and a zone of parks were founded in the area of town fortifications.
There are five SPA-hotels in Pärnu today which gives a good surplus value for the meeting sector. The growing so called wellness-conferences is getting more and more popular.
